IceFire: Combat Simulation (UT2004 Total Conversion)IceFire was a very small concept: Take an RAH-66 Comanche and Mi-24 Hind, put them in a low altitude theatre, watch the fun. This project was a very serious exercise in Unreal Technology (UT2004). Myself and one artist were all that composed this team. Our final product was a three player vehicle deathmatch. One player would operate the more maneuverable Comanche and two players would operate the heavily armed Hind (pilot/gunner). The two biggest features of the Mod were missile configuration system and the targeting system. We were very pleased with the results of the Mod as we were able to sidetrack our commons area at our university for about three hours when we presented it. Unreal Nations (UT2003 Total Conversion)Unreal Nations was one of the largest Mod teams that I have ever worked on as it's team sizes for both artists and programmers were in the twenties. During the lifespan of the project, I started out as an AI programmer for it's FPS/RTS vibe with FPS AI using armories that the RTS AI built. I also worked on the flocking patterns of the massed military units. Once this project left the non-funded realm, it became a proof of concept for a game pitch. At this time, I assumed the role of lead programmer and managed the process through the concept stage. Modular Havok (UT2003 Total Conversion)Modular Havok was one of the first Mod projects that I joined while attending UAT. The idea was originally slated for the Half-life 2 engine and the concept was basically a Mod that allowed players to select a vehicle and customize the weapons. These vehicle all had hardpoints on which various weapon types could be attached. It was a more arcade version of games such as Mech Warrior or , now that I think about it, Chrome Hounds. The concept was simple but the scale was huge. Unfortunately this crippled its development. However, during the time that the project survived, I prototyped a weapon mounting system with Unreal Tournament 2004. This prototype covered the principle of the concept. It then turned into a mutator for UT2004 where players could mix and match any turret on any vehicle. This was horribly imbalanced as everyone took the Leviathan (5 hardpoint mobile battle station) and mounted Goliath (tank) turrets on each one. |
